Dr. Engr. Zubaer Syed

Dr Zubair Syed serves as the Head of Credentials at Engineers Australia, where he leads strategic initiatives to advance professional standards within the engineering sector. He is currently leading the development and implementation of the National Competency Standard for Engineering (NCSE), which will replace the existing competency frameworks for engineers in Australia.

Dr Syed’s portfolio encompasses the Chartered and Engineering Executive credentials, oversight of current Areas of Practice (AoP), and the creation of new AoPs to support credentialing. His responsibilities also include managing membership pathways, articulation processes for Engineers Australia members, and the program endorsement framework.

Academically, Dr Syed holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and earned his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of Melbourne. His distinguished career spans both industry and academia. In industry, he contributed to major infrastructure projects in Victoria while working with a Tier 1 multinational consultancy. In academia, his experience extends over a decade across five countries, including the UK, UAE, and Malaysia. He has authored more than 30 indexed publications and supervised numerous research projects across diverse engineering disciplines.

Throughout his professional journey, Dr Syed has demonstrated exceptional leadership, guiding diverse teams to achieve complex objectives. He has held senior roles in multiple institutions, showcasing expertise in engineering practice, education, accreditation, and professional development.
