Prof. Dr. Engr. M. Shamim Z. Bosunia

Dr. M. Shamim Z. Bosunia is the Professor Emeritus in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Asia Pacific. He also currently serves as a Managing Director and Chairman at Adobe of Consultants (Pvt.) Ltd – a home of structural designers & architects to solve engineering problems.

Shamim Z. Bosunia graduated from BUET in 1965 in civil engineering, had his MSc in 1972 and PhD in 1979 from University of Strathclyde, UK. He joined at BUET as a teacher and served there till 2009 in different capacities. At BUET he was deeply engaged in academics, engineering projects, and research works. He worked as a Group Leader of 12 professionals to recommend economic designs preparing a master plan for new cyclone shelters in the coastal areas of Bangladesh, as a Team Leader for the design of a 23-storied Sadharan Bima Bhaban, as a Team Leader for Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Ltd apart from various other high-rise structures. At BUET he served as a Head of the Department, Dean of Faculty and Professor of Civil Engineering including the Director of Students Welfare. In his distinguished career Dr. Bosunia is recognized by national and international organizations for his outstanding professional achievements. He has a long list of research publications in national and international journals, presented papers in seminars and conferences, offered technical lectures as a resource person.

He earned a Professional Engineer (PEng) title from BPERB in 2009 and became involved in different committees of IEB to recommend enlistment of practicing engineers. During his long career in consultancy services, he worked as a Group Leader in the World Bank/UNDP projects, as a Team Leader in various high-rise buildings, worked as a Member of Team of Consultants in innumerable projects and as Chairman of Panel of Experts in some mega projects. Some of his landmark projects include the Padma Bridge, Tunnel below the Karnaphuli River, 24 km Kowla-Bipail Elevated Roadway Project, 39 km Dhaka East-West Elevated Expressway.

He was also involved in various organizational activities. He was Vice-President and Treasurer of Bangladesh Football Federation for long 21 years and Member of Bangladesh Olympic Association. He is the sitting President of Bangladesh Association of Consulting Engineers and Architects (BACEA).

He was the President of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) for 2013-2014 term.
